need to be contended with

Windhoek Berg Canoe Marathon takes bold step
forward in 2010
Cape Town – The country’s toughest canoe marathon has taken a bold step
forward with the announcement that 2010 edition of the four day
ultra-marathon from Paarl to the Cape West Coast will be known as the
Windhoek Berg River Canoe Marathon. Taking place the week after the FIFA
World Cup Final, the Windhoek Berg River canoe marathon will once

Wacky Wineroute Race
80 or so canoeists were treated to prefect weather, albeit on a fairly low
Breede River, when they raced in 2nd Annual Viljoensdrift Wacky Wine Route
K1 canoe race over the 26 kms between the Goree Weir and Viljoensdrift. So
good was the weather, that the low river levels did little the reduce the
enthusiasm of the paddlers who lined up, upstream of the
Goree Weir.
Starter, Paul Watson, setting the paddlers off at 10h30. And away the field
went,
upstream from the weir to
a turning buoy
set at about 800m into the race, before turning and racing back to the
weir, which at these low levels, had to be portaged.
Gouda to Bridgetown race
The 28 km Gouda to Bridgetown K1
canoe race, held on the Berg River on Saturday 29th May, 2010, was held on a
full river and in perfect weather conditions. The sky was blue and
cloudless, the wind, gentle from behind and the backdrop of the snow capped
Witzenberg Mountains made for a picture as pretty as could be imagined. And
into this landscape, 116 canoeists started the race slightly upstream of the
Gouda bridge, the rains
on
late last week having raised the water levels sufficiently to negate having
to start below the tree block about 200m below the bridge which would have
been the case had the river been as low as it was when tripped last
Wednesday by members of the organizing club.
